MISS POTTS' CONCERT
The concert given by Miss E. Potts at the Palais, Healesville, on Mon day evening, 10th inst., proved a great success from every point of view, and further, it was a most agreeable surprise to the public generally.
It was expected that the entertainment would be good, but anticipations were greatly exceeded, as the production was one of the finest enjoyed by an audience at Healesville. The program was given by artists' from Melbourne, including Miss Elsie Donovan, Miss Gwen Dyer, Miss Jean Chaplin, Mr. Eric Hammond and Miss Elizabeth Potts.
Each item was well received by the appreciative audience, and many en cores were given, the lady performers being the recipients of bouquets. Miss Potts' rendition of her numbers was a delight to all, and reflected great credit on the thorough tuition which she had received. The hearty applause and many bouquets she received speak of the warm place she holds in the hearts of those among whom she lives.
The hall was well filled, and the platform was most daintily decorated, the latter being the work of the ladies' committee, which was formed to help in the organisation of the concert. Miss Potts was congratulated on every hand, and many requests were made that a succession of concerts should be given. |

MISS POTTS' CONCERT.
A MUSICAL TREAT.
It is seldom that the public of Healesville is given the opportunity of participating in such a delightful musical program as that placed be fore the audience at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening by Miss Elizabeth Potts. The attendance was moderate, and in no way commensurate with the value of such an artistic production. However, those who were fortunate enough to be present expressed their appreciation in no uncertain manner, the performers being recalled time and again.
The stage was nicely decorated with gum tips, azaleas and foxgloves, these harmonizing with the general setting. The program was opened with a pianoforte solo in a particularly finished manner by Miss Rene Morrlssy, whose various efforts throughout the evening were really delightful.
Miss Elizabeth Potts is an old favorite with Healesville audiences, and her sweet soprano voice charmed her listeners, and quite surpassed expectations.
Miss Gertrude Hutton, the possessor of a beautiful mezzo contralto voice, attracted great praise, her various numbers giving great enjoyment.
The humorous element was introduced by Miss Margaret Kerr, a talented elocutionist, who convulsed the house in roars of merriment with her exceptionally clever character and comedy sketches, and her quaint ways and sayings brought storms of applause.
The well-known tenor, Mr. Percy Blundell, was in fine voice, and his contributions were a source of great enjoyment.
The whole program was carried through without a hitch, and the only regret is that a crowded house did not favor such a fine musical exhibition. The audience showed its appreciation, not only by applause, but also in the matter of floral presentations, all the lady performers being the recipients of handsome bouquets.
A special gift of flowers was made to Miss Potts by a number of local children, several pretty bouquets being presented. Repeated encores were demanded of the artists.
The program was: Pianoforte solo, "Prelude in G Minor." Miss Rene Morrissy; aria, "Porgi Amor," song, "Lament of Isis," Miss Elizabeth Potts: aria, "Softly awakes my heart," Miss Gertrude Hutton; character sketch, Kip. ling's "If," Miss Margaret Kerr; song, "Nita Gitana," Mr. Percy Blundell; duet, "I heard a voice in the tranquil night." Miss Elizabeth Potts and Miss Gertrude Hutton;' piano forte solos, "Waltz in G Flat." "Country Gardens," Miss Rene Morrlssy; comedy sketch, "The photographer," Miss Margaret Kerr; songs, "Jeunesse," "The Woodpecker," "Annie Laurie," Miss Elizabeth Potts; song, "The Blind IPloughman," Miss Gertrude Hutton: songs, "Mary," "My dream," Mr. Percy Blundell. Miss Rene Morrissy acted as accompanist. |

Sarah Elizabeth Potts
SARAH ELIZABETH POTTS, eighth child and second daughter.
Being the second youngest child, Lizzie remained at home after leaving school. She became a devoted Christian and a great support to both Dad and Mum. She possessed a wonderful soprano voice. A visitor to Healesville, hearing her singing a solo in a Salvation Army open air meeting, immediately interviewed Dad and convinced him of the wonderful opportunities for a girl with such a singular voice. The outcome was that Lizzie won a four year scholarship free study under the unique teaching of Madame Darling at Allans Music Store, Collins St., Melbourne. With a trained voice she became an outstanding soprano vocalist. She was always placed as a soloist in the annual concert of students arranged by Madame Darling, and delighted that lady as one of her foremost and outstanding singers.
She did not follow singing as a full time career, but dedicated her voice to God who had given it to her. She was welcomed as a guest artist at conferences of the Women's National League, the Women's Christian Temperance Union and various churches. She also gave freely of her gift of a golden voice at war rallies, farewells and welcome homes to soldiers of World War 1. She was also frequently engaged on national radio programs.
Perhaps the greatest honour to come Lizzie's way was being on the same program and Platform in a concert organised by the Illustrious Dame Nellie Melba, the world's leading soprano at the time. One had to be exceptionally good to appear on the same platform as Melba.
She opened a business at Ringwood during the war years.
Sitting on the beach at Sandringham one day, a crochet needle penetrated her leg above the knee. Septic poison set in and she died at the age of 30 years from its effect, never having married. She was born 12-2-1898 and died 15-3-1928.
